Symptoms of ulcerative colitis can include abdominal cramping, rectal bleeding, diarrhea, and the urgent need to have a bowel movement. Ulcerative colitis can also cause complications such as colon cancer, anemia, and inflammation in other parts of the body.

Now that we understand the differences between Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, it's important for those of us in the Black community who are dealing with IBD to take steps to manage our health. This can include working with a healthcare provider to develop a treatment plan, making dietary and lifestyle changes, and finding support through online or in-person communities.

While living with IBD can be challenging, it's important to remember that we are not alone. By staying informed and taking an active role in our health, we can live full and fulfilling lives despite our conditions.
